Pendulum is a collective initiated in 2018. Some of its members are the graduate students of the Cultural and Media Studies Program, Gadjah Mada University. This collective is established to accommodate those who do not have a place to voice out their perspectives in the classroom. Having 8 members, Pendulum at first was a shared space for studying various disciplines such as photography, visual art, music, literary research, and literature. Pendulum used to commence weekly meetings, now it has started a website pendulum.id to display their research findings.
Pendulum discusses the oft-overlooked marginalized space issue. The issue is regarding those working at the department stores, movie theaters, or hangout spaces such as the cleaning staff or shopkeepers who rarely have a proper space to rest in their workspace. Pendulum responds to such a situation by showing the situations in which workers are marginalized at their workspace. In its work, Pendulum offers intervention in the form of bean bag provision. The bean bag symbolizes the urgency to treat the workers in the humane ways, to imply that they do not have the appropriate space to rest. The final product of this project is in the form of photographs.
