Kinez Riza’s ‘Vanishing Points’ (2016) explores the allusion of meaning to an ‘event’ through photography and sculpture. The artist was inspired by Francis Bacon’s gender appropriation within ‘The Masculine Birth of Time’, which reflects upon a ‘scientifc man’ extracting from a ‘feminine nature’. She was also inspired by Apollonian and Dionysian dichotomies to contemplate the tension between cause and effect.

In fictional and narrative led image construct, the artist often experiences using the verbal medium to a more explicit nature. This led her to regard representing the Sublime imbued with a more implicit nature instead of critical distance.

Components within the photographic works represent the dialectical opposition of forces. In the Internos series, meteorites, most of which have remained unchanged since the formation of the sun, oat above water in anticlimactic impact, or rather, the artist suggests a moment whereby explicit cataclysmic factors of the phenomena itself was suspended. The Meteorites represent an entity mirrored between an explicit reality to an implicit sub-reality to visualise a mode of Being, in which the two opposing forces vanish and is suspended in air (meteora; greek)

Amatan dan renungan Kinez Riza terhadap fenomena alam di satu momentum berlaku seperti kepingan pazel, yang menginspirasinya dalam melihat “kenyataan” manusia masakini; perilaku, dan keyakinan mereka soal eksistensi diri. Kinez mencari pemahamannya sendiri dengan mengalami dan menjelajah ke pedalaman dan mendengar kisah-kisah kebijaksanaan masa lalu. Membicarakan masa lalu bersama Kinez adalah membicarakan periode ratusan hingga ribuan tahun lalu. Setelah lulus kuliah di Inggris, Kinez banyak bekerja untuk mendokumentasikan penelitian dan artefak temuan dari Pusat Penelitian Arkeologi Nasional dan Museum Geologi Bandung. Karya-karyanya berupa foto, video, dan instalasi yang “memanggungkan” artefak-artefak dari masa lalu ke galeri-galeri seni. Kinez memadukan metode penelitian saintifik dan gaya pemanggungan dunia fashion, membawa kita takjub pada alam yang lembut sekaligus kuat.
